Coaster Photo Ornaments

So have you noticed I had a post a day this week? Well I had a bunch of ideas for Christmas crafts to share with you but was putting off getting “photos” of them and organizing the posts.. I realized that Christmas is 2 weeks away (now it’s 1 week away! major PANIC on my part!).  So this week I have shared a few of the things that have been “percolating” in my head this season….

Last year I was working with the teenage girls at church. The other women I was working with and I were trying to come up with a nice gift to give the girls for Christmas. We decided to talk about some of the “gifts” that the girls had been given.  The “gifts” we were talking about were the intangible talents and personality traits that each one of them had. We wanted to make them each feel grateful for the gifts that God had given each one of them individually.
To reinforce this we decided to make ornaments a list a special quality that we had observed in each of the girls.
To make the ornaments, we took photos of the girls, then converted them to B&W. In Photoshop  I added the words to the photo, then had the pictures printed.
We mounted the photos on coasters that we got at the dollar store (checked, and they don’t have them this year).  We added a scripture to the back then punched holes in the ornaments (had to use a cropadile, they were pretty thick) and tied ribbon through to hang on the tree. (we also inked the edges of the ornament and used a nail file to smooth out the edges)

I think this idea would also make a great present for Granparents!

This is fantastic….I’ve been thinking about something similar to this only in the shape of a gift tag. What material is the coaster made out of…kind of cardboard like when you visit a restaurant? Have you thought about what might be an acceptable alternative since you couldn’t find them again? Thanks for all the inspiration!

Ooh I like that idea. Those turned out really cute and I still need to get my kids their ornaments for this year so maybe I’ll make some of these. Thanks for the great idea!
