Go Baby Go!!

It's the MOST wonderful time of the year here in Kentucky!

Saturday marked the start of celebrations leading up to the Kentucky Derby!

Many of you might not know much about Kentucky,  but you have probably heard of the Kentucky Derby, The most exciting 2 minutes in sports!

In the two weeks prior to the running of the Derby the city of Louisville throws a big party! There are tons of events to attend and lots of yummy food to be eaten!

I moved to Kentucky 15 years ago Derby Day. We pulled our moving truck in just in time to catch the race that day.  We had left Utah where spring had come late that year, and arrived in Louisville with green grass, trees full of colorful blossoms and tulips blooming everywhere. It was beautiful.

Before I moved to Kentucky I heard someone say "all you need to know about Kentucky are three things,  Tobacco, Bourbon & Horse Racing"...

hmmm. I thought... I'll fit right in, as a non-smoking teetotaler...

but that's really not true. .... There is so much more to living here. Horse Racing is a beautiful sport that can be fully enjoyed whether or not you bet on the race, and I've even figured out how to make a Mint Julep without the bourbon...

the Derby Festival Balloon Race that I got to be a part of a few years ago

This is really my favorite time of the year here, and one that makes me proud every year to say that I am now a Kentucky resident.

I want to share some of this with you, my blog readers.  It's a great looking into a "slice of life" of living here.

I started talking to Traci about it and we decided to team up and have a little blog party the week of the Kentucky Derby.

Sounds like a great party! My older brothers used to have a tradition of going to the derby every year. They don't go every year anymore, but I'd sure love to go see it sometime!

I've been a Louisvillian my whole life, and not once attended Derby or even The Oaks. I do love the parade and Thunder and seeing all of the visitors though.

I can't wait! I must admit, Kentucky is a place I don't know much about (besides the Derby - Smarty Jones will always be our family favorite.) :)
