CONGRATS!!! Emily!
Email me and I'll get you in touch with the Vintage Pearl to claim your prize! (email is on the sidebar_)

Little Gifts for Little Ones...

First,
Thanks to everyone for entering The Vintage Pearl giveaway!  I'll have a winner announced tomorrow!

I can tell I'm starting to get "old" because there are less babies around me.  It seemed like a few years ago all of my friends were having babies, and I was always making baby things (which, by the way, are some of my FAVORITE things to make!). I guess we are all moving on to other phases of our life now, because I don't get to make as many baby things anymore. (maybe I'll have to put some stuff in the shop... I miss it a bit!)....

Recently I made a couple of gifts for some friends with babies... As is typical for me, one of the babies is months old now and I am just getting stuff done! The other one is for a friend who is due to have her first baby girl very soon!

I  made a version of my twirly skirt and matching onesie.  The measurements were pretty simple and it only took 3 fat quarters to make. I was happy to break into some of my new Sandi Henderson fabric!
I think it will fit a 6 month old baby, but I'm not sure,  I don't know any 6 month olds to try it on!! (see I told you I was getting old!).

The matching onesie has a fabric flower and a glitter button of course! (I don't think I hardly make anything anymore without a glitter button on it!).
The directions for the flower can be found on my post on Moda Bake Shop.
If you are interested I can post the directions for the baby skirt... It was pretty much the same as the dolly skirt but with a wider waist and a longer skirt.

(bad flash photo.... sorry)
I  also made a set of burp cloths (and some embroidered bibs that you can't see very well) for a cute little baby boy. I used Amy's  tutorial on Diary of a Quilter and it was sooo much easier!! (the stars are just raw edge appliqued on).

Keep an eye on the etsy shop this week! Traci is listing more pendants (including custom ones) and I'll be listing another pattern, the fabric scrapbooking kits... plus a couple of surprises!

Gray Skies & Valentines

First,
Thanks to everyone for the great start this week for our shop! Like I said we are starting out small but have big plans for 2010!
I listed a few pillows covers that I made this week..

*I think this one would be cute in a bedroom*

They fit 12x16 pillow forms (didn't include the pillows to help on costs)... I plan on making more covers for each Season and Holiday, so you can switch them out depending on the time of the year!
They are made by printing digital images on muslin (digital image used with permission)...
Go check them out.. I think they are kinda fun!

This is the view out my front door today.... and yesterday and the day before and the day before that... It is gray and dreary! In Louisville we don't get much snow, just lots of rain and dreariness all winter (oh but it's still COLD)... I don't know which is worse (the snow or the gray)...

Soo..... to help with the winter blues, I had a couple of friends over this week and we made these...
Like it??? I'll tell you a secret.. I will be giving one away, stay tuned....(I won't be listing them in the shop, I can't... they are made with my cricut, they are really strict about selling online)...

Which I hung here:

Notice the use of the flash... I really hate to use my flash... but you see what it looks like outside! No choice !!
Oh, and in the hallway is this...
white feather trees are so useful!! (bought it years ago.. sorry don't have a source!)

Also, I wanted to say thanks to a few people who linked up to my Love Pouch, Valentines Bag!

I think i need to make her fabric valentines to go in my valentines pouches!

and the fab!!!

and
125

Thanks for the links guys!!

Don't forget to check back Monday... A brand NEW tutorial will be up and I'll be hosting a sponsored giveaway!
Now go do something fun and have a great weekend!!

Busy as bee...

I've been busy busy busy sewing and crafting away. Tomorrow I need to sit down and have a little "session" to get photos of my recent craftiness... so I'm hoping for a little sunshine! (I mean is a little natural light for a photograph too much to ask for?!?)...
But wanted to share with you really quick...
Ali, of She's One Crafty Mama bought my Love Pouch pattern! I was so touched, I've known her for years. She got busy right away making them for her girls.

She emailed me today, and guess what, she's DONE!!

I love the bright pink she used on hers.
I've still got 2 more to make for my other 2 kids (they seem quite worried that I won't get theirs done)... This weekend....

Etsy, Hearts, Hope & little birdies

Just a quick update... I've got some valentines crafts planned this week that I should have some fun tutorials later in the week... but for now..and I AM going to finish my latest Moda Bake Shop project this week.. (yes I am, I am.. I will NOT be distracted by the internet!!)

Traci has listed her Soldered Charm Pendants in the etsy shop

Go run and grab them before she figures out she is not charging enough for them.
Traci is too modest, so I'll "toot her horn" for her.  I've seen them in person (I own a few) they are very well made, plus DANG cute! I am so in love with this little birdie one.
I wear mine layered on my necklaces with other charms and pendants... I have some for a few different holidays and love when it's time to pull out the ones for that season.

This is a picture of me wearing them (she didn't make the round one) last fall.  She puts them on lobster clasps so you just "swap" the pendants on and off... and I bet if you ask really nice, she might even make one for you with your initial on it! (just click request custom item in the shop)

Second..
In case you haven't heard, there is an etsy shop set up to donate to Doctors without Borders, who are desperately trying to do all that they can in Haiti.
100% of the proceeds of the shop go right to the charity.  Myself and hundreds of crafters have donated items to the shop. Check it out and keep checking back often.

Craft Hope for Haiti Shop Spreading seeds of hope one stitch at a time

Third...
Many have asked, and I have an actual sewn item ready to list in the shop this week. No, its not the Love Pouches already made... but still something fun for Valentines day. So keep an eye on the shop. I also have one more pattern that is almost done.. (it should not be hard to guess what it is, there's a big hint on my blog... anyone want to?)

Fourth...
Here are a couple of Valentines posts from the "past"... just incase you have red hearts & crafty love ideas swirling in your head like I do.

Little Girls Cupcake Party... part deux

I loved seeing everyones "Best of 2009" posts on their blogs and thought about doing one for mine.
Well....
I didn't install google analytics on my blog until this month... I KNOW I KNOW... silly girl... I was just trying not to get to overwhelmed by blog traffic etc...
Then curiosity got the best of me (I really wanted to know my top visited posts of 2009!).. and I installed it.

Well, funny thing happened... guess what one of my top google searches is? (for the last 2 weeks)
"Little Girls cupcake party"
I was surprised I still get hits there and its an older post.
So since many people are still looking for ideas for that type of party. I thought I'd post some more photos and info about the party.

The table setting. I let them eat in the "fancy dining room".. I found paper placemats at Hobby Lobby

Ahead of time I made cupcake pops with Bakerellas directions.  (mine do NOT look as good as hers). To display them on the table, I put styrofoam in a planter, then covered the top with marshmallows.  I just stuck the pops in. I also had lots and lots of paper doilies all over the table.

I did a "mini" candy buffet.  I could not find candy in all the colors I wanted, so I filled one jar with marshmallows.

My daughter requested lots of fruit, so we had strawberries, apples & grapes. (all in fancy dishes or on cake plates).

The cake that almost was not.... I used my cupcake mold cake pan. Then thought I'd cover the top with fondant... never worked with fondant but thought I'd give it a try... Top was okay  (not great)... The bottom was a disaster!!!!  With 1 hr to the party, my Mom had the idea to dip the base in chocolate and it worked!  Not the prettiest cake out there, but I gotta show you the bad with the good huh!

We served them dinner. They had smiley french fries, fruit, pb&j cut with a heart shaped cookie cutter, mini corn dogs, chicken nuggets...

We had fanta to drink... The cans totally matched the theme, can you blame me?

For the party activities we decorated chef hats (paper ones purchased online), decorated cupcakes and let them dip their own cupcake pops.
The cupcake pops got a little crazy.. so no photos of that part...

My Mom had a great idea to put the different kinds of sprinkles in a cupcake tin with spoons so they could pick what they wanted. It was MUCH easier than just using the bottle they came in.

For favors, when the girls arrived I gave them their own apron.

I ordered aprons in bulk online, then using ink jet transfer paper, printed a cupcake and ironed it onto the aprons.  I would have loved to applique cute cupcakes on all of them, but didn't think I could get them all done.

The treat bags were little purses. I filled them with candy/cupcake stickers, "chef" rubber duckies, bubbles and a few other things.
I also had cupcake boxes for the girls to take home the cupcakes they made in.

We had a great time and by using pre made food for the dinner, it was less work...
She is already talking about what she wants to do this year... We'll see if I can pull it off.

Open for Business ... may & mae

It's OPEN!

Our  etsy shop, mae & may, a joint venture with Traci of amazing mae is open!!!!   (A bit later than I planned, but it's not the wisest idea to try to open an etsy shop right before Christmas...)

We are going to be adding things to it as we go, keep an eye out for shop updates, for now I have listed my first 2 patterns. We are starting out small but have big plans for 2010!

First, the Love Pouch...

I was inspired by everyones favorite children's catalog to make these cute little pouches for Valentines day!  After I was done I thought someone else might like to make them too so I went ahead and wrote up a pattern for it.

The pouch is made from canvas, lined with fabric and embellished with felt!  You could change the colors around if you are making it for a boy.

It's a pattern with photos of the steps. It's written in tutorial form, and has full instructions AND the template for the heart and the letters. You can just print out the alphabet template and trace the letters you need.

The pattern is in PDF format and will be emailed to you.

It has a buttonhole in the top to make a slit for delivering Valentine love notes or treats!!!

This summer when I was traveling I need a good, small lightweight bag to carry around with me. I wanted it to fit my iPhone,  compact camera, wallet, chapstick, hand santizer.. etc.. You get the idea. But I did not want to carry around my big purse every where.
This fall before we went to Disneyworld I made the bag. I loved it while we were at Disney it worked perfectly for what I needed...

Thus the June Bag was born. (it's called the June bag, because it's a travel bag, and isn't June the perfect month to go on vacation????)

The cool thing about this bag, is that it is made using 4 fat quarters!  NO other yardage required (just some interfacing and notions!)

It's a pattern with photos of the steps. It's written in tutorial form, and has full instructions including cutting guides for the fat quarters (to help you make the most from your fabric)!

Both are available for sale in the shop!!

More Details:
Right now I'd don't have plans to sell either item already made, but won't rule it out for the future in the shop.

If you buy the pattern you can make things to sell in a craft fair or in an etsy shop.  The purchaser may hand make items for sale. The purchaser only, and only made by hand, not mass produced.

The blue June Bag was made from fat quarters from Amy Butler's Love collection.

I used Bamboo felt (from Heather Bailey) on the Love Pouch.

PLEASE let me know what you think! I'm always open for suggestions.

Watch for a few more shop updates coming up soon! Traci will be listing some items and I've got some sewing kits that I'm working on.

The Quilt is on her bed! (it's about time)

Remember this quilt?

Well I never said I was a "quick" quilter..... I got it back from Angela at Quilted Joy right before Thanksgiving.
Then it sat...
and sat...
and sat...
waiting to be bound.
You see I got a bit busy at Christmas time....
Then my daughter decided that she was ready for it to be ON her bed, and promptly took the old quilt OFF her bed, and began sleeping with a pile of blankets....

then it got cold... I mean really cold...
so my good ole' mommy guilt kicked in and last week I bound it for her! After much indecision, I bound it in one of the pink prints that I used in the blocks.
*it's a dark and dreary day today.. sorry for the not great photo...*

It gives the room so much more pizzaz! I really wanted to bring out the black in her bed and her dresser... I'd take a photo of the rest of the room but she's 14... you can guess what it looks like.
There are some photos here, of it in cleaner days.

Now she is warm snuggled up in it...

Now just to make pillow shams for it... I wonder how long that will take?
