Witch Halloween Costume Ideas

Okay,

Normally I don’t have Halloween costumes done until about 5 minutes before the trick or treaters arrive… but this year we were going to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween party, so they had to be done early.

I was so proud of my kids this year, because they picked out EVERYTHING themselves and just gave me sewing instructions.  I was amazed at the way they could pull fabrics together and the creativity they put into the design… much better than I would have come up with on my own.

My oldest daughter got the idea to make Witches with Identities-  so we had a Bird Witch, a Spider Witch and the Momma Witch- so much better than just a regular witch.

My oldest being 16 and just too cool for a normal witches costume was a bird witch.  She picked up a peacock feather in the craft store and used that as her inspiration (clever girl). She has a turquoise and gold tulle skirt over a kelly green satin fabric.

After refusing to wear a witches hat, she came up with the idea of a Witches Hat Fascinator.  She picked out all the supplies and put the hat together ALL BY HERSELF, right down to the hot glue, feathers & beading.  Like I said, Clever girl.

The top of her costume was a plain green cardigan. To “halloween” it up a bit I sewed black buttons around the collar.

My youngest girl went as a Spider Witch.  With main instructions that she wanted to be purple and green.

Her skirt is made from green tulle with an satiny harlequin overlay (just used one of my skirt tutorials for the skirt, I can whip those out pretty quick now). I sewed a bit of halloween garland to the hem of the top layer of the skirt.

Her cape is purple tulle- and I was proud of myself that I made it without a pattern.. It’s got a hood on the back.

Her hat was just a plain black hat that we added ribbon, flowers and feathers to. I tried to get a better photo but black does not photograph well.

For her sweater I embellished the front with spider buttons.

As for me the Momma Witch, I was happy to have an excuse to dress up for Halloween again.  I made the cape from black glittery fabric and lined the hood with orange crushed velvet.  I’ve wanted a cape for years, I think it will be fun to wear to greet trick or treaters at the door.

I just wore a black lace shirt, black skirt underneath.  My necklace is from a local art fair, but Traci makes similar charms.

I HAD to do the striped tights, my only regret is that I didn’t wear red glittery shoes, but I had to walk around all night- so I went with the comfy shoes.
