Bloggy tips & tricks

When I started this blog 2 years ago, I had very little experience with the blog world. I had worked in IT for 5 years, but on the development side... I knew absolutely nothing about html.   Today I still know very little about html- just enough to be dangerous *wink* Everything I know I have learned by googling my problem and finding the answer. (along with a lot of trial and error)

My very first blog header

As my blog has evolved I've tried to evolve the design with it.  I remember the day I about had a heart attack when I saw I had 60 followers- so exciting!!!

Everything you see here is just me... no blog designer- I go back and forth with thinking I should hire one, but I think I'm just too lazy- and part of me does like the "figure it out" part of blogging, but sometimes I wonder if it's holding back my blog growth.  My sister is a web guru and is patient with me when I call her and say things like "I think I broke my blog!!"... she gets me out of tight spots.

Since I've just been "making this up as I go",  I thought some of you might be also and thought I'd share a little trick that I figured out last month.

Some Country inspiration

Our extended family has taken on a bit of a project this summer.  We are putting together a little family cabin getaway.    I've got very talented family members on both sides of my family. My mom and sister are extremely creative... and are my husband's mom and sister.  Actually to say they are creative is a bit of an understatement-   I've got plenty of people around me to draw inspiration from.

Sunday Snapshots

It's time for some more summer snapshots.

If your new here, I'm posting snapshots of our summer once every week or so to encourage me to take more photos of my life and not just my blog projects *wink*.
The rock garden in the back yard is starting to take off!

I'm getting lazy and taking too many photos of my kids with my iPhone instead of my good camera.  I'm going to get to the end of the summer and have only quality photos of sewing tutorials!!  Which I'm not so sure my kids will care about when they are grown!

Here are this weeks snapshots...

Create a summer dress from 2 t-shirts!

---This is a repost of a tutorial I did for Funner in the Summer at Thirty Handmade Days--

I'm so happy to be guest posting on Thirty Handmade Days today!! Thank you so much Mique for having me!

Today I'm sharing a tutorial on making a cute summer sun dress from 2 t shirts! I picked up the t-shirts at Walmart on clearance, but any t-shirts will do.  Just make sure that they are mostly "straight" and not the fitted variety!

For this project you will need:

Summer Pillows- with free pattern :)

I've been having fun getting our outdoor room put together this year. The weather has warmed up and we find ourselves spending time out there most evenings.

Saturday Snapshots

Summer has arrived with full force here in Kentucky. The cold rainy days of May have been replaced with the hot and humid days of June.  With the heat comes the desire to move at a slower pace, sip lemonade on the porch and spend days out by the pool.

This is summer in the South.... hot sunny days followed by humid nights. You walk outside and can feel the damp in the air.  The kids nightly count the number of fireflies they  catch and I have to admit there is something magical about the twinkling light show they put on at night.

It's usually not this hot in June, but our unseasonably wet and cold spring has led to an unseasonably hot early summer.

Easy Father's Day Gift

Today, I thought I'd share with you what my kids made for their Dad for Father's Day last year...

They made him a Super Dad t-shirt, using freezer paper stencils.

Summer Reading

I ordered a little somethin' from amazon this week...

It came a few days ago and I've been curled up on the couch with a bit of summer reading.

It's the Fresh Fabric Treats book!

Hanging Outdoor Drapes

Last week I shared some photos of an outdoor room that I've been working on since March.

Today I wanted to share a few more details about it... I've still got several projects "to do" out there but it's a good start and now that the weather has turned to summer, I should be able to get them done!
