Deck the Halls with boughs of cobwebs?

Have you enjoyed all of the Halloween posts this week? I hope you have!  I thought I'd end my Halloween "craft a palozza" with some shots of the decorations in my house.

The table behind the couch, looking into fireplace.  Halloween flip book on the side.

As I was putting out my decorations, the thought did cross my mind that I was INTENTIONALLY adding cobwebs to my house... and heaven knows I've got plenty of those that spring up on their own.

So here's my Halloween house- beware - photo heavy post!

Printable Fabric Halloween Banner

Last month I shared this project over at Rhonna Designs.   Today I'm going to share with you how to make it.

I've got a BUNCH of Halloween banners (really more than I need). So I decided to do something different with this one and make it out of fabric and embellish it with some of our past Halloween photos.

I don't want to talk about the tv above the mantel. Let's just say I lost an argument :)

Did you know you can print on fabric? It's super easy, but not waterproof, so don't print anything you think you'd ever need to wash.

Mr. Horseman & Mr. Crane

I could not convince my family ALL to match for Halloween this year (I know, I'm horrible... I always try to match the costumes).  So the girls were Witches  & the boys went as,

Icabod Crane & the Headless Horseman

I didn't make my husbands costume. Just "refashioned" it from some previous costumes and cut off some pants he didn't like.  He found the hat at Disneyworld & we picked up a scarf at Target for him to wear.

3 Witches

Okay,

Normally I don't have Halloween costumes done until about 5 minutes before the trick or treaters arrive... but this year we were going to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween party, so they had to be done early.

I was so proud of my kids this year, because they picked out EVERYTHING themselves and just gave me sewing instructions.  I was amazed at the way they could pull fabrics together and the creativity they put into the design... much better than I would have come up with on my own.

Meet Mr. & Mrs. O'Lantern

Please meet Mr. & Mrs. O'Lantern

Here is Jack

and his lovely wife Jill

They were made by modge podging a poor neglected destroyed dictionary onto cheap plastic orange pumpkins. If I ever get some free time, maybe some day they will have children.

Their outfits were a bit plain, so Jill got a bow and a velvet collar & Jack got a bat bow tie.

They live on a table in my living room.

For the next week I'll be sharing Halloween ideas! Let the countdown begin- one Halloween post every day until Halloween... it will be Spooky, but for sure not Scary.

The Sewing Summit

I just got back late last night from the Sewing Summit.

I had a great time....

In an effort to travel "light" (because it was just me, no kids)... I didn't take my DSLR... So today I present the "wrap up" of the Sewing Summit, courtesy of Instagram...

Maryann's Chili

instagram photo

I love to cook, but don't always have the time to do it properly- thing is, I'm kinda picky about my food, in that- if I'm going to eat it, it'd better be good.

That's why I like this chili recipe- it's DELISH but SOO EASY, except for the time I mixed up the Kidney Bean can with the Canned Cherry can, but we don't need to talk about that today :)

Handmade Christmas- Start Cutting

Okay, Quick post today- Just want to keep everyone on track... I'm going to be out of town for a bit in October and didn't want to leave you guys "high and dry" while I'm gone, so the cutting post will be divided into 2 parts.

So ready???

Let's start chopping up some fabric!

First of all- if your still not sure what you are doing, grab a piece of graph paper and start sketching out your plan...

-where each fabric is going
-what size you need for each piece
-how many pieces you need to cut
-colors, size etc...

This is a sketch of a quilt I just finished- I went as far as to color in the blocks, it ended up helping quite a bit - you think you'll remember that stuff, but if you put down your project for a week or so, trust me you'll forget.

The best way to drive up the cost of a quilt and waste fabric is to start cutting before you've got a good plan in mind.

Witches Brew

My husband likes to tease me that I drink too much Diet Coke- and I probably do... but his teasing inspired today's project- so I can't complain too much. My very own bottle of Witches Brew *wink*
