Spring Bloggers Quilt Festival

Amy, over at Amy’s Creative Side hosts quilt festival twice per year.  I’ve participated a couple of times and thought I’d go ahead and share a quilt for this round.

The quilt I’m sharing today is one I made for my oldest daughter for Christmas. I’ve blogged about it before but it got lost in the “crazy Christmas Quilt Post” so I thought I’d drag it out today and get some better photos of it (since the last ones were taken during our gray Kentucky winter.)

I love this quilt because I made it up myself.  I’ve got a great love for novelty prints but they can be hard to use in a quilt.  My design process always starts with the fabric, so I challenged myself to find a way to incorporate multiple novelty prints into one quilt.

I found this great Michael Miller print in Utah last summer and wanted to find a way to make some quilt squares with it.

The original intention was to make 12 courthouse step blocks. However, as I got going I decided it would be too busy with all of the novelty prints and decided to just “wing it” and go for a more improvisational design.

All of the fabrics are things she loves, elephants (she collects them), scooters (wants one and won’t ever get one), and fun Mod 60′s style dresses.

I think my favorite parts are the borders. They are graduated widths of scraps.  The bottom borders are gray and the top borders are pink.

I think I might make an entire quilt, just like those borders. (add that one to the never ending to do list!!)

This quilt is excuisite. I love every single piece of fabric you used on this quilt. The designs and the unique images on each piece make it extra special. The scooters, the pink elephants, the girls…love it! Total masterpiece!
