Hi, my name is Lindsay Wilkes from The Cottage Mama! I’m excited to be here sharing this super-simple, beginner sewing project for Easy Polka Dot Coasters. These coasters will take you about 10 minutes to whip up. You can give a set of these as a sweet little hostess gift or just make some for yourself. They are also an easy project to make for a party as a way to tie in your favorite fabric to your party decor. Let’s get started…….

Easy Polka Dot Coaster Tutorial

(MAKES 6 COASTERS)

Supplies:

1 Fat Quarter cotton fabric

1 Fat Quarter quilting batting

Pinking shears

Scissors

Thread

Sewing Machine

Instructions:

Gather your supplies. Cut 3 circles for each coaster. Cut 2 circles from your cotton fabric and 1 circle from your batting. Circles should be approximately 5” wide in diameter.

Layer your fabric and batting. Place one fabric circle with the wrong side up, place the batting on top and then another fabric circle on top with the right side up. This should make a batting and fabric sandwich.

If you would prefer your coasters to be more absorbent, you could certainly add additional layers of batting. This is how your coaster should look prior to sewing.

Sew all the way around the circle using a 1/4” seam allowance. Once you’ve sewn the circle, take your pinking shears and trim around the circle, cutting as close to the stitching as possible. Repeat above steps for additional coasters.

In no time flat you’ll have an adorable set of polka dot coasters!

Thank you so much Lindsay!  These would be so fun to make and have around the house all summer!    Make sure you stop by Lindsay’s amazing blog the Cottage Home.  She regularly shares great sewing and lifestyle ideas.

I was first introduced to her work when we both started on the Riley Blake Design Team.  I got the privilege of meeting and chatting with Lindsay at Alt Summit in January this year.  She’s another fantastic person that will be teaching at the Riley Blake Fabric Fest Event in Las Vegas this year.  We’re going to be having a ball there! I can’t wait.

  1. So cute and so simple! Great inspiration. I have a stack of polka dot fabric on my shelf begging to be made into a quilt- this will be a great little project for the scraps!

  2. Great learn to sew project for kids, and maybe they’ll be more inclined to use coasters they’ve made. They would also make good gifts. Thanks for sharing this idea!

  3. Finally, something I think I might just be able to make! I’d prefer to make one of those adorable dresses… one day, one day. 🙂
