A new Sewing Pattern: Nesting Dolls Zip Pouches

Nesting Dolls Zip Pouch Pattern, includes printable Matryoshka Dolls

I’m so excited to be introducing to you today my newest PDF Sewing Pattern these Nesting Doll Zip Pouches, a Matryoshka Doll Pattern.

This pattern is a bit different from the patterns I’ve released in the past in that it includes printable images with the pattern, the little Matryoshka Dolls. You can buy the PDF to get instructions to make the pouches, and also print off the last pages of the pattern on printable fabric.

Did you know you can print on fabric!?!?!? Yep I actually do it quite a bit. Most people print photos but I’ve had fun this year printing other images (You’ll see more projects using printable fabric in the next few months here).

I’ve tested quite a few printable fabrics and my favorite by far is made by Electric Quilt.  I like their plain cotton non fusible the best.  It doesn’t fade and the texture and weight are great for sewing projects.

The idea for this pattern came from my niece. She ADORES Nesting Dolls. She will sit and stack and unstack the dolls all day long. She even used to carry a batch of them around with her everywhere.

I sat wracking my brain trying to think of a way to sew some nesting dolls for her, then one day it dawned on me…. Use Zippers!!!

Nesting Dolls Sewing PatternThese dolls each have zippers on the side… you can zip them all into each other to “stack” or you can just use them individually as little zip pouches for treasures.

The pattern comes with sewing instructions (with how to photos).. and the last 6 pages of the pattern are the pieces of the doll. You’ve got 3 doll fronts and 3 doll backs in various sizes. I’ve even included seam allowances on the doll pieces.  You also get 3 2” x 2” squares that are used as zipper tabs.

Don’t be afraid of the zippers I walk you through it step by step on the pattern.

I also included a “bonus” doll that is too small to make into a zip pouch but she makes a cute little stuffed doll to fit inside the smallest zip pouch.

Matryoshka-Dolls-Printable-2The printable fabric is very easy to work with. Just MAKE SURE when you are done that you read the instructions on the package to set the ink. Each manufacturer is different, don’t skip this step. The Electric Quilt fabric has a plastic backing on it to make it go through the printer, just peel it off when you’re ready to sew. You also want to print on the fabric on your basic ink settings. Using “best” or “photo” will cause too much ink to deposit on your fabric.

The pattern is now listed in the Shop!  It’s in PDF format that is delivered to you automatically via download link after you purchase the pattern.

Also FYI incase you were wondering…. I purchased a commercial license for the digital images to make the dolls. This license gives me permission to sell you the pattern pieces but not for you to make these to sell for profit or to redistribute the images or pattern.
