Quilt Market New Fabrics part One

Cotton and Steel Fabric, Hatbox

I’m still processing my first Quilt Market experience.  Trying to sort out new ideas and inspiration and prioritize tasks and potential new projects. It’s crazy when you have a blog, so much of what you do is decided by what YOU want to do. Except for when I’m dealing with a deadline, what I work on each day is up to me… I love that freedom but sometimes it gets overwhelming trying to sort though the potential blog posts and projects floating around in my head at any given time. Things to pursue, things to give up on, new things to try and other things to stop doing…  It will be interesting to see how the summer shakes out.

Today I thought I’d share with you some of my favorite new fabric lines coming out in 2014. They were previewed at Quilt Market by various fabric manufacturers and designers.  I’ve broken it down into two posts as to not to write a mile long post.

To me it seemed the biggest buzz at Market was over the new lines from Cotton and Steel. 5 superstar designers have combined their efforts and in my opinion totally knocked it out of the park. It’s the perfect combination of funky fresh and modern.

They were at sample spree, which is an event at market where you can buy new fabric lines before they come out. Somehow I lucked out and the door I was waiting by was right next to the Cotton and Steel table, so I managed to buy 4 fat quarter bundles. I think this is mostly because I’m tall and had long enough arms to reach over the hoards of people crowded around the table…. like I said, lots of buzzz….

The top photo is the Hatbox line from Cotton and Steel…

The next two photos are from Moonlit,

and the last one is from August:

I seriously can’t decide which is my favorite- and HELLO how am I ever supposed to cut these up???? It should take about a year for me to decide what to make with them *wink*  –  Although I’m quite sure I’ll be making a skirt out of the Mustang Horse print from Melody Miller for Derby next year 🙂 I didn’t get to buy any of the basics but they are dreamy, solids with flecks of gold!

Quilt Market Spring 2014 Recap

After all of the stress and commotion of the Sample Spree Cotton and Steel booth I was a little overwhelmed and completely unable to make a decision as to what other fabrics to buy.. I managed to pick a few up at Riley Blake and Robert Kaufman, I’ll share more info about those fabrics tomorrow.

Here are a few photos of more fabrics and projects that caught my eye…

The Birch Fabrics Booth was gorgeous– such pretty colors and amazing fabrics. I’ve always been a big fan of their designers. They, like many other companies are now offering more than just quilting cottons!

I’m absolutely in LOVE with these fabrics from Monaluna Fabric Company… Those woodland creatures are to die for!

That red fox print is my favorite! I love how it tricks the eye a bit.

Here are a few from the Free Spirit Fabrics booth…. I hung around there for a while trying to decide if I was brave enough to say hello to Amy Butler, in the end I did say hi, and she was very, very sweet – (I’m not quite brave enough to pose for a photo though, maybe in the Fall!)

New Fabrics from Tula Pink, I always love her color combinations:

and a new line from Heather Bailey!  She has been on my “favorites” list of fabrics for a long long time and I can’t wait to see her entire new line!

That’s enough fabric eye candy for today! I’ll be sure to share more later this week, new fabrics from Art Gallery, Riley Blake, Dear Stella, Moda and a few more!
