Quilting Bee Dress Sewing Pattern

Hello there!  Before you read this post I should warn you that it contains photos of both sunshine and a beach.  Consider yourself warned if you’re still buried in snow *wink*

Quilting Bee Dress pattern from "Just For You" Sewing Book

This past weekend I escaped to Cancun.  It was just a quick trip with my husbands office but it turns out that it was very much needed.  A month of snow, ice and sub zero temperatures had really started to get to me. You may have noticed a higher than normal concentration of typo’s on blog posts lately. I’m convinced the cold was starting to mess with my brain cells.

We just barely got back and today I’m feeling jet-lagged, tired, cold and completely overwhelmed by my “re-entry” to do list, so you’re not allowed to hate me too much :).

Today you can find me over at the Sew Can She Blog as a part of their Sewlebrity Sew Along,  talking about this dress that I stitched up for myself the night before I left for Cancun.

The pattern is the Quilting Bee Dress from the book “Just for You” and it’s made from some Cotton + Steel double gauze fabric.

    1. Oh, and the last thing I sewed for myself? Wow. Um, I made myself a messenger bag a month or two ago! That was the first “for me” project in quite some time! I tend to knit for myself but sew for other people. It’s time for that to change! 🙂

  2. Today is the first time I’m wearing a knit Vogue top I finished over a month ago…finally warm enough to not have to put a sweater over it. Not sure if I love it, but the fabric is fabulous.

  3. Love the dress! The last thing I sewed for myself was hmm, a hot pink faux fur and fleece scarf to wear in the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer walk. Before that were some tops for this spring – if it ever gets here! Still under so much snow here in Massachusetts!

  4. Such a lovely dress and I admire you for making it the night before your left! I always have so many last minute things to do then and even if I didn’t , I would not have the patience then for sewing.
Wonderful to spend some time in the warm Sunshine at the end of winter, I can soooo understand the cold getting to you. I am not a winter person, love the spring and summer. Over here we are enjoying an early spring, the crocus are out as are the daffodils and we have that typical Dutch spring sunshine, sharp light, not that strong yet, but with so much promise!

  5. The last thing I sewed for myself was a Sailor Top. It was my first garment. I’ve already purchased fabric for my next one! Your dress is adorable. Love that double gauze!

  7. It’s not a garment, but the last thing was a large tote made out of a vintage tablecloth. I needed one to carry my fabric when I go to my sewing groups.

short or low in the front! (I’m an old lady!)LOL!

  22. I can’t remember the last thing I sewed for myself. It may have been the re-usable shopping bags that are still going strong after 6-7 years! Although, those aren’t just for me really. Maybe it was the knit nightgown about 10 years ago? As you can see, I need to start sewing for myself, and that quilting bee dress is the perfect start!

  25. The last thing I made for myself was a appliqué table runner. I attended a needle turn class at a local quilt store & the center block was the “needle turn lesson.” It turned out so cute that I actually finished the table runner and have it on my small dining room table.

  26. love this dress … the fabric is amazing … and i’m jealous, jealous, jealous …. even though we live in the pacific northwest, eastern washington state and it was … uhhhh …. 70 yesterday, it’s still coooold at night — 29-35 … the last thing is sewed for myself was a quilt for a newborn granddaughter … LOL … i have not sewed for me in a very long time, but that dress …. lovely ….

  27. Boy, that is a tough one. Is my husband close enough? I just can’t think of anything I’ve sewn in recent years for myself. The last thing I sewed (for him) was a little place mat for the table next to the most popular chair/his usual spot in the living room. It’s made from his retired dress shirts, two plaids and one stripe. It’s quite sweet and he loves it. And that makes me *happy*. Thanks for the giveaway. Hope you are refreshed!

  28. I’m still in the middle of a project for myself – a hat and raincoat made from The Magic Pattern book by Amy Barickman. I would have been done with that hat at least had I not sewn the crown wrong to begin with. The result of the error was that the crown would not match up properly with the hat brim… Fortunately only one seam had to be removed. I just hope the new (correct) seam hides the needle holes from the incorrect seam.

  29. The last thing I made for myself was a new wallet in laminated cotton! Love your dress – I really do want to try and sew some dresses for myself too and this one looks so flattering. Nice that you got some much needed sunshine, it looks almost TOO bright in the photo!! Hope it’s not too cold back home and that the snow is on its way out!

  30. Cute dress, if only I was comfortable going sleeveless!
I’m currently making a Trailblazer bag with some Cotton and Steel fabric.
I’ve got plans for a couple of work appropriate tops as soon as I decide which Freshcut print to use… they’re all wonderful!

  31. Sewing for myself… It’s a novel thought. Truthfully, I’ve probably made 100+ quilts and own about a handful- mostly because my daughter still lives with me (she’s only 10) ;). I really want to make myself a darling weekender bag but it seems MUCH more difficult than quilt-making! Your dress is darling!

  32. Ummm… does a muslin for a summer top I was trying to make last summer count? I did just order a new pattern and some fabric just for ME though, so more sewing for me is on the horizon! Thanks for the chance to win- this book looks so inspiring!

  33. I don’t sew for myself very often, but I recently made some Hudson pants (True Bias patterns) and I love them! Thanks for the giveaway!

  35. I haven’t sewn in years, I think the last thing was a Halloween costume……..a pixie. But I would love a copy of the book for me teenage daughter, who is sewing like crazy!!!! She got a sewing machine for Christmas, and the last thing she sewed was pajamas. She LOVES creating things and we are forever in the fabric stores!!!!

  36. I made curtains and I’m currently working on a simple “human” Robin Hood costume for my grandson’s school play. Human as in not the Disney fox Robin Hood according to my grandson. Ha!

  37. The last thing I made for myself was a midi blouse. Most of my sewing has been toys for the kids and totes.
Would love to have new ideas in your book. It would be fun.

  39. Very cute dress! I love cotton + steel. Have yet to make anything from it because I love it all. A little jealous of the beach pictures, but the snow has been shining, temps have been in the 50s and the snow is melting.

  40. Last week I made myself a cute summer dress—if anything, just to bring a smile to my face when I wore it! 🙂 I sew for everyone special in my life, but never for myself, so it was great fun to finally cave in and do the “sew-for-me” thing! Love you blog, btw, and especially appreciate today’s post as that dress is now on the to-do list.
