Quilting Bee Dress Sewing Pattern
Hello there! Before you read this post I should warn you that it contains photos of both sunshine and a beach. Consider yourself warned if you’re still buried in snow *wink*
This past weekend I escaped to Cancun. It was just a quick trip with my husbands office but it turns out that it was very much needed. A month of snow, ice and sub zero temperatures had really started to get to me. You may have noticed a higher than normal concentration of typo’s on blog posts lately. I’m convinced the cold was starting to mess with my brain cells.
We just barely got back and today I’m feeling jet-lagged, tired, cold and completely overwhelmed by my “re-entry” to do list, so you’re not allowed to hate me too much :).
Today you can find me over at the Sew Can She Blog as a part of their Sewlebrity Sew Along, talking about this dress that I stitched up for myself the night before I left for Cancun.
The pattern is the Quilting Bee Dress from the book “Just for You” and it’s made from some Cotton + Steel double gauze fabric.
Hop on over to Sew Can She to read more about my thoughts on stitching up the dress….and to look at a few more pictures of sunshine and sand.
The book features 24 projects that are designed to be made FOR YOURSELF!! There bags, accessories, clothing items and other really cute and fun projects.
As a part of the Sew Along I’m giving away one copy of Just For You. Just use the Rafflecopter widget below to enter. US residents who win, will receive a book, and international residents who win, will receive an electronic copy of the book.

I made a bathrobe – don’t laugh but I wanted a flannel robe so I made one!
Such a cute dress! Looks easy to sew.
Ooh, I love this dress! Thank you so much for this example – I’m gonna go get myself some double gauze!!

Oh, and the last thing I sewed for myself? Wow. Um, I made myself a messenger bag a month or two ago! That was the first “for me” project in quite some time! I tend to knit for myself but sew for other people. It’s time for that to change! 🙂

Today is the first time I’m wearing a knit Vogue top I finished over a month ago…finally warm enough to not have to put a sweater over it. Not sure if I love it, but the fabric is fabulous.
It was a long time ago, but I made myself a tote bag to use when going to the library.
Love the dress! The last thing I sewed for myself was hmm, a hot pink faux fur and fleece scarf to wear in the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer walk. Before that were some tops for this spring – if it ever gets here! Still under so much snow here in Massachusetts!
The sun looks great. Thanks for the giveaway.
The dress is wonderful! I just made a top to wear this summer …..if it ever gets here.
Such a lovely dress and I admire you for making it the night before your left! I always have so many last minute things to do then and even if I didn’t , I would not have the patience then for sewing.
Wonderful to spend some time in the warm Sunshine at the end of winter, I can soooo understand the cold getting to you. I am not a winter person, love the spring and summer. Over here we are enjoying an early spring, the crocus are out as are the daffodils and we have that typical Dutch spring sunshine, sharp light, not that strong yet, but with so much promise!
The last thing I sewed for myself was a Sailor Top. It was my first garment. I’ve already purchased fabric for my next one! Your dress is adorable. Love that double gauze!
Lovely warm, summery pics, great fabric for the dress too. I made a skirt with a lining from my own measurements, I was chuffed.
I’m ready to win the marvelous book.
A wallet. It had been so long i almost forgot.
These look like a lot of fun projects.
It’s not a garment, but the last thing was a large tote made out of a vintage tablecloth. I needed one to carry my fabric when I go to my sewing groups.
Thanks for the chance to win the book! I’ve had my eye on it. And that dress is very cute with that fabric!
I’ve been knitting scarves for myself and friends.
I would love to win your book. Infinity scarves was my latest sewing for myself.
The last thing I sewed for myself was a thermal zipper pouch to carry my epi pens in.
Eeek! That dress is so stinking cute! Love it and that book would be awesome since I’m new to sewing. Thanks.
I made myself a cross-body purse and now I’m making them for daughters’ preschool teachers as end of year gifts. 🙂
A maternity top when pregnant with my youngest son (26 years ago). Sew for my granddaughters, friends, and family.
The last thing I made for myself was a new apron
The last thing I sewed for myself was a wallet well before children came. Since then it has been stuff for kids.
I made a knit top for myself using AMH knit.
What a cute dress and I would love to make one too. Last thing I made for myself was a swimsuit and a gauze fabric beach cover-up. Yes, I would love to win!
I just made myself a new clutch. I can’t remember the time before that. Mostly sew for my kiddos and friends.
I recently started a series of making Color Theory based quilts for ME! Have made 2 so far and have another one cut. However, I am in need of updating my wardrobe and need to sew some great tops and dresses. This book is just what I need!
I cannot remember what I made last for myself. I know I shortened a couple of skirts for myself recently. I used to make things for myself all of the time. I think I should get back to it.
The last thing I made for myself was a summer top. I love the dress you have made, not too
short or low in the front! (I’m an old lady!)LOL!
I sewed an overnight bag and a few pouches to put in it! My first big bag sewing experience and I really enjoyed it and love the outcome. I may be sewing more bags up for the kiddos!
It’s been a long time since I sewed clothing for myself, but your blog has some of the cutest patterns I think I’m ready to try again.
The last thing I made for myself was a skirt. I would love to make the blouse on the front cover of your book!
I have not made myself an article of clothing in a long time. I plan to make some summer blouses in voile or double gauze. I used to make a lot of clothing but mostly work on quilts these days.
I made myself a Jocole Quick Dress (top version) last night. I absolutely LOVE the fabric and pattern you chose for your dress!
I can’t remember the last thing I sewed for myself. It may have been the re-usable shopping bags that are still going strong after 6-7 years! Although, those aren’t just for me really. Maybe it was the knit nightgown about 10 years ago? As you can see, I need to start sewing for myself, and that quilting bee dress is the perfect start!
Love your blog! I am shopping right now for that double gauze fabric so I can make something for myself for the first time
Adorable dress with such fun summery fabric!
The last thing I sewed for myself was a pot holder made of Valentine fabric. Exciting huh? Anything I can make that helps me enjoy preparing meals a bit more is good!
The last thing I made for myself was a appliqué table runner. I attended a needle turn class at a local quilt store & the center block was the “needle turn lesson.” It turned out so cute that I actually finished the table runner and have it on my small dining room table.
Love the dress, love the weather too! Thanks for the chance to win.

Boy, that is a tough one. Is my husband close enough? I just can’t think of anything I’ve sewn in recent years for myself. The last thing I sewed (for him) was a little place mat for the table next to the most popular chair/his usual spot in the living room. It’s made from his retired dress shirts, two plaids and one stripe. It’s quite sweet and he loves it. And that makes me *happy*. Thanks for the giveaway. Hope you are refreshed!
A embroidered quilting square for a community quilt.
I’m still in the middle of a project for myself – a hat and raincoat made from The Magic Pattern book by Amy Barickman. I would have been done with that hat at least had I not sewn the crown wrong to begin with. The result of the error was that the crown would not match up properly with the hat brim… Fortunately only one seam had to be removed. I just hope the new (correct) seam hides the needle holes from the incorrect seam.
The last thing is a hands free shoulder bag!
Love your dress!!!!! The last thing i sewed for me is a cardi (m6844 I think).
The last thing I made for myself was a new wallet in laminated cotton! Love your dress – I really do want to try and sew some dresses for myself too and this one looks so flattering. Nice that you got some much needed sunshine, it looks almost TOO bright in the photo!! Hope it’s not too cold back home and that the snow is on its way out!
Cute dress, if only I was comfortable going sleeveless!
I’m currently making a Trailblazer bag with some Cotton and Steel fabric.
I’ve got plans for a couple of work appropriate tops as soon as I decide which Freshcut print to use… they’re all wonderful!
Many years ago, I made a fully lined wool suit!
Sewing for myself… It’s a novel thought. Truthfully, I’ve probably made 100+ quilts and own about a handful- mostly because my daughter still lives with me (she’s only 10) ;). I really want to make myself a darling weekender bag but it seems MUCH more difficult than quilt-making! Your dress is darling!
I think I need to start sewing garments.
What a novel thought- sew for me??? Thanks!
Thanks for the giveaway.
I cannot remember sewing for myself. Must be more than 10 years ago!
Ummm… does a muslin for a summer top I was trying to make last summer count? I did just order a new pattern and some fabric just for ME though, so more sewing for me is on the horizon! Thanks for the chance to win- this book looks so inspiring!

The last thing I sewed for me was a knit top. I love using knit when sewing for myself.
Very cute dress! I love cotton + steel. Have yet to make anything from it because I love it all. A little jealous of the beach pictures, but the snow has been shining, temps have been in the 50s and the snow is melting.
The last thing I made for myself was some sampler blocks for a quilt.
Last week I made myself a cute summer dress—if anything, just to bring a smile to my face when I wore it! 🙂 I sew for everyone special in my life, but never for myself, so it was great fun to finally cave in and do the “sew-for-me” thing! Love you blog, btw, and especially appreciate today’s post as that dress is now on the to-do list.
I made a tea cozy for myself recently.
Thanks!
would love the sewing book. I forgot most of what I learned as a child

I guess a quilt is the last thing I sewed for me. I tend to make quilts for others.
I’m currently working on a winter dress, but now that I got a peak at spring I want bright springy shirts!
baby bumper!
I made an a-line skirt with fold-over elastic. Well, it still isn’t hemmed yet, but I plan to wear it this spring so maybe it’ll actually get DONE in 2015!
