Scrapbooking Summer…

With Summer winding down here I’ve been thinking of how I want to remember it. It turned out to be a pretty good summer and I’d like to scrapbook it so that we’ll always be able to look back on it. We’ve only got 1 or 2 more summers until my oldest is off to college (insert panic here) so all of this time together as a family has seemed more precious the last little while.

I know many people who have stopped scrapbooking- There are lots of reasons, but the one I wanted to point out here is the overwhelming feeling that you have to scrapbook every picture… Let me just tell you right now that I’m not doing that.  I decided a couple of years ago to just concentrate on the “special stuff”.

I’ve also changed how I go about it-  Instead of only the traditional 12×12 albums I’ve branched out and done mini albums (you can see many of them here), digital printed & bound albums & themed albums (like Christmas).  It’s helped me quite a bit and now I just look at any scrapbooking that I get done as a “bonus” instead of feeling guilty if it’s done or not.

I thought I’d share with you the next few days some of the ways that I’ve streamlined my scrapbooking.. Maybe some of them will work for you too.

We went to Disney world a couple of years ago and came home with over 1000 photos (oh the joy of digital photography).   Here’s my plan for tackling those photos-

Close up of the journaling tags

I printed ONLY the best ones 4×6 doubles … then sorted them into piles for “magic kingdom, epcot, special memories” etc…

Then I created a title page for each section (you can see the Hollywood studios section above) and one 2 page layout.

Then the rest of the photos I stuck in photo storage sheets-

That’s it.. for each section- dozens of photos scrapbooked in very little time…

I also interspersed a few digital scrapbook pages in there too… I think they blend right in with the traditional pages..

I’ve also noticed that it’s easier to keep the pages in a standard 3 ring binder until I’m done with the album. Then I can rearrange pages as I need & move stuff around easily until I’m ready to put it in a proper album.

The album is not 100% done but is pretty close!!

The next few days I’ll share with you a few more quick ideas to Scrapbook your Summer.

  1. LOVE to see all that CTMH product and Studio J layouts!!!! Sure does make it easy to create and finish layouts! I, like you, like a little of both…that way I can still get my fingers inky and have some texture in my albums!

  2. Thanks for the tips. I’m one of those that’s starting to feel like just giving up because it’s so overwhelming. Where did you get the storage sheets?

  3. This is such a great idea! I think it is so important to at least get pictures into albums. It is so easy to just leave the poor pictures unprinted on my computer.

  4. I love the idea of keeping the extra pictures in regular photo pages. And I like that you mixed traditional scrapbooking with digitial. I’m inspired. And I definitely feel overwhelmed by all the pictures waiting for the scrapbooking mood to hit!
