Hey today is the fourteenth of May! Ready for a Giveaway???
Giveaway is closed! Thanks for entering!
Last year when I was trying to think of a name for the company I wanted to start and I was stumped. Really stumped. I went through a dozen different ideas and all were nixed either by my kids, my husband or myself.

Something crossed off the list…
Thanks for all the questions and ideas for my blogger “about me”… please keep ‘em coming!!
I’ve been sewing a lot the last few days and I’ve gotten some stuff done! I’ve got my next 2 Tuesday Tutorials ready to go *yippee*, and a few other things started! Which is good because it’s time to shift gears and start getting my house organized.. it’s gotten pretty disorganized over the winter.
I’m still making bags for the shop… but thought I’d share with you one I finished today. It was a custom order for a local person..
It’s the Sunday Bag Pattern...
It’s made from Basic Grey’s Sultry fabric line. I still prefer heavier weight fabric for this bag, but to “beef it up” I added a layer of canvas in between the bag outside & lining. It came out nicely, and is a good sturdy bag.
I also used brown pinwhale corduroy for the bottom stripe on the bag, then added ribbon instead of a 2nd fabric to the top of the stripe.
Now just to make one for me… remember how I told you I kept the last one?? Well I ended up giving it away after all… Someday I will make something and keep it… someday ….
Oh, don’t forget to upload your creations to the Polkadot Chair flickr group!

New things & heart strings…
So, I went to make a new tutorial for the laminated pouch last night and I’m out of laminated vinyl! (thought I had quite a stash!) So watch for a tutorial early next week. (after I have time to hit the store, I’ll take a photo of the package so you know what to buy!).
In the meantime…
I’ve got a new pattern at fourteenmay! It’s the March bag, because I am REALLY wanting Spring to be here and the bright colors and fun shape of this bag remind me of Spring.
The pattern includes printable pattern pieces, and instructions for a choice of 3 handles/straps.
View A features store bought handles. (flower instructions included in the pattern)
View B includes one long handle to make a shoulder bag
View C features 2 shorter handles so you can carry it or use it as a shoulder bag.
There is one large pocket on the front & back of the bag… Perfect for having somewhere to throw your keys, grocery list or your phone, while keeping your wallet more secure inside.
Yes, I WILL be listing already made bags! I am going to sew and sew and list them all at once, I’ll have a post with a “shop update announcement” when I’m ready.
Also, Traci is listing Spring/Easter/Initial charms. The Valentines ones all sold out so grab your Spring ones!
Okay, for the “New Things”… now onto “Heart Strings”
For Valentines we do a fancy “family dinner” we eat in the dining room. We send the kids upstairs and Jeff and I decorate the table then call the kids down to see their “surprise” with the room all decked out a small gift for each of them. (always includes a box of chocolates!)
This year was very nice. Andrew insisted on keeping his church clothes on, and even said “Mom, this is a very nice dinner!” It really did pull at my heart strings… Here are a few photos from the day…
Got the other pouches done at the 11th hour
Sydney made this card for Jeff, I love what it says “I love Jeff, AKA Dad”
Andrew covered in chocolate from the strawberries
Sydney eating cupcake. To save time I bought cupcakes from our local cupcake shop this year. The kids loved guessing which one was theirs.
and because I always take a picture of the food, our yummy dinner. Chicken Parmesan with homemade marinara sauce and fettuccine alfredo with fresh noodles…

Etsy, Hearts, Hope & little birdies
Just a quick update… I’ve got some valentines crafts planned this week that I should have some fun tutorials later in the week… but for now..and I AM going to finish my latest Moda Bake Shop project this week.. (yes I am, I am.. I will NOT be distracted by the internet!!)
Traci has listed her Soldered Charm Pendants in the etsy shop
Go run and grab them before she figures out she is not charging enough for them.
Traci is too modest, so I’ll “toot her horn” for her. I’ve seen them in person (I own a few) they are very well made, plus DANG cute! I am so in love with this little birdie one.
I wear mine layered on my necklaces with other charms and pendants… I have some for a few different holidays and love when it’s time to pull out the ones for that season.
This is a picture of me wearing them (she didn’t make the round one) last fall. She puts them on lobster clasps so you just “swap” the pendants on and off… and I bet if you ask really nice, she might even make one for you with your initial on it! (just click request custom item in the shop)
Second..
In case you haven’t heard, there is an etsy shop set up to donate to Doctors without Borders, who are desperately trying to do all that they can in Haiti.
100% of the proceeds of the shop go right to the charity. Myself and hundreds of crafters have donated items to the shop. Check it out and keep checking back often.
Third…
Many have asked, and I have an actual sewn item ready to list in the shop this week. No, its not the Love Pouches already made… but still something fun for Valentines day. So keep an eye on the shop. I also have one more pattern that is almost done.. (it should not be hard to guess what it is, there’s a big hint on my blog… anyone want to?)
Fourth…
Here are a couple of Valentines posts from the “past”… just incase you have red hearts & crafty love ideas swirling in your head like I do.
