Okay, file this one under GO BIG OR GO HOME! I LOVE a cool Kentucky Derby Fascinator!
Every year at the Kentucky Derby the hats are the stars of the show, second only to the horses.
I’ve been to the Kentucky Oaks several times now and I can tell you that hat watching is one of my favorite parts of the event.

Field Trip to the Kentucky State Fair
Over the weekend we went to the Kentucky State Fair. I had not been to the fair since moving here 16 years ago and decided it was time that we go again. You see I’m not a huge fan of large crowds and fried food, but the promise of a 75 degree day in August was too much to pass up… so we headed out to the fair.
Win, Place & Show Ribbons Centerpiece
I decided to add a bit to my Kentucky Derby Decorations this year by making some Prize Ribbon to use as a centerpiece.
I used the Number Junque, Spring Circus, Quaterfoil, & Chevron kits from Rhonna Designs.
In Horse Racing, the first place horse Wins, the 2nd place horse Places, and the 3rd place horse Shows. Hence; Win, Place, Show are terms you hear a lot at the track.

| The Kentucky Oaks race, the race the day before the Derby, and the one we try to attend. |
Living in Louisville, Kentucky one thing is for sure, you celebrate the Kentucky Derby every year like it’s a national holiday :)
Even though I didn’t grow up here I feel like I’ve embraced Kentucky as my home and find myself every year looking forward to the Derby and all of the great festivities leading up to it. It’s the most wonderful time of the year… at least here in Louisville.
