Is it a trip or is it a Vacation?

familyvacation

You may not think that there is much difference between a trip and a vacation, but I’m going to tell you there is.  If you’re a Mom you know what I’m talking about.

If you’ve read my blog for a bit you probably know that I jump at any excuse to get out of town.   I love to travel and I love to blog about it when I come home.   There is something magical to me about exploring this world we live in, almost intoxicating.

A top for me, The diplomat tunic

Lisette Diplomat Tunic

I got the idea a few weeks ago to make a top for myself.  I saw the Lisette Diplomat Dress and that did it. I haven’t made a piece of clothing for myself since I was in high school. Back then I was stick thin and much easier to fit.    I fell in love with this Amy Butler fabric and thought it might be a good time to dive back into sewing for myself.

Smash Book Travel Album

Last summer I had the great opportunity to travel to South Africa with my extended family.  It was an amazing trip and I’d go back again in a second!  You can read about my trip here, if you’re curious.

Before I left, I knew that I wanted to document my trip as it happened. I find that so many details get lost if you try and remember a trip afterwards.

Ten things I loved about South Africa

I’ve started and stopped this post several times in the last 6 weeks. I don’t know if it’s the lack of a “quiet house” this summer or a serious case of writers block, but I couldn’t figure out how to best share my South African experience with you.   Finally I decided rather than a “play by play” I’d share some of my favorite photos and experiences about our trip there.  Most are taken by me or my daughter, with a few instagrams thrown in.

Nautical Chic Mini Album

I LOVE making mini scrapbook albums!  All of the fun of scrapbooking with a concrete “ahhh, I’m finished!” moment!

For this album I decided to tackle some of the 2000+ photos from our trip to the Mediterranean 5 years ago (was it really that long ago??)

Since I’ve journaled about this trip extensively – I just wanted to put a few of our favorite photos from the trip into a little album that I can keep in my basket with my other mini books.

Simple Vacation Album

In the last few years I’ve totally changed how I approach scrapbooking.  Instead of individual albums focused on specific events with only 1-2 pages per event, I’ve moved to an annual family album.  Then to capture our more memorable moments (vacations, special events, holidays) I’ve moved to making individual mini albums.
