White Chocolate Caramel Apples

Our family had so much fun playing around with making and eating Caramel Apples this year that I wasn’t ready to stop making them after Halloween.

With Thanksgiving coming up this week I thought I’d share with you this recipe for these simple White Chocolate Caramel Apples.  In my opinion, a more elegant version of a caramel apple would be a perfect addition to a Thanksgiving table.

White Chocolate Caramel Apples

This particular set of apples turned out to be my husband’s favorites, I admit that we’ve eaten more than we should have this fall.  I’ve made them three this year and even took a batch into his office to share.

Candy Apples

They are super easy to make, you’ll need:

  • Packaged Caramels (although next time I’m going to figure out how to make my own caramel to avoid unwrapping all of the caramels).
  • Apples- I recommend Honey Crisp which are only available in the Fall but so worth it!
  • Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • Popsicle sticks, lollipop sticks, bamboo skewers, or paper straws (if you use paper straws you’ll need to insert a bamboo skewer in the center of the straw to make it strong enough to hold and apple)
  • Wilton Candy Melts- White Marshmallow Flavor

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 Bag Packaged Caramels
  • 6 Apples I recommend Honey Crisp which are only available in the Fall but so worth it!
  • 1-2 T Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 6 Popsicle sticks, lollipop sticks, bamboo skewers, or paper straws (if you use paper straws you'll need to insert a bamboo skewer in the center of the straw to make it strong enough to hold and apple)
  • 1 Jar Wilton Candy Melts- White Marshmallow Flavor

Instructions

  • Wash your apples and dry well. Insert the lollipop sticks into the centers.
    How to make caramel applies
  • Melt the caramels in a double boiler (I don’t have a double boiler but use a metal bowl inside of a stock pot and it works great).
  • Add about 2 T of the sweetened condensed milk to the melting caramels. Stir constantly until they are melted. Evaluate the consistency of the caramel if it’s too thick add more condensed milk. Don’t get it too thin or the caramel will just fall off of the apples.
  • Dip the apples in caramel and let them cool on a baking sheet (you’ll need a silpat so they don’t stick).
  • Melt the candy melts according to the directions on the package. After the caramel is cooled dip the apples in the melts.
  • Place back on the baking sheets to dry. I then put them in the fridge to store.
