Derby Style Prize Ribbons Quilt Pattern

Today  I’m sharing with you a little update on my Prize Ribbons Quilt Pattern.  If you are curious about the fabric used on this quilt hop on over and read about my line with Riley Blake Fabrics, Derby Style.

You ever start a “to do” list then it gets to be so overwhelming that you completely forgot what was on your “to do” list in the first place. Well… yeah that.

Last October for Quilt Market I made a this quilt. I absolutely LOVED the pattern and loved even more the machine quilting done by Natalia Bonner on it.  I was ecstatic to tote it with me to Houston to hang in the Riley Blake booth market. I even ended up binding it in the car on my way to Florida.

The quilt hung around market for a while and was reunited with me sometime in November. By November it was cold outside and I’m a total chicken when it comes to cold weather, so I never took it “out” for a proper photo shoot. Then it just got thrown on the “not going to look at it because it will stress me out – to do- pile of things”.

Yeah I know what you’re thinking excuses Melissa, excuses, and I’m going to tell you I still blame the polar vortex (and always will).

Last month we went to dinner at a friend’s house, who just happen to live in another county on a large plot of land surrounded by horses.  Before we left I grabbed my camera and the quilt and had a little “impromptu” photo shoot.  (The moral here, if you have a home in a stunning locale, don’t invite me over unless you are okay with me taking lots of photos).

The sun was setting fast and we were losing the light, but I was able to snap a few photos before sunset.  Being “particular” I’m still not “convinced” that this is the last photo shoot with this quilt (the light was kinda funky at sunset) but they are a million times better than the ones I snapped inside of my house last January.

When I designed my latest fabric line in August I also jumped into a “redesign” of my patterns. I’m working on getting the printed and expect that they should start showing up in stores late this year.

This quilt pattern is one of two that will be available in print- the second one was sent off to the quilters this week.

You can pick up this pattern in PDF form over in my pattern shop.

It comes to you via instant download, no waiting around for someone to send it to you.

The quilt features 3 dresden plates which I think look remarkably like the ribbons that they give out at county fairs and horse competitions.  The top of the quilt is entirely appliquéd and uses glue basting to help simplify the process. It’s not as complicated as it looks, promise. You don’t have to hand stitch a thing (unless you want to).

Are those two just adorable? The one on the right is mine and the one on the left is one of her “besties”.

…. as you can see, the horses were ever so helpful and positioned themselves perfectly for the photos.
