Hey Guys! Are you ready to start stitching again? A few weeks ago we learned how to make Half Square Triangle (HST) blocks and today we are building on that skill to create row 3 of our quilt.

I set up a page here with the instructions for making Half-Square Triangles that you can refer to as you work. That way we can just jump right into the block construction today.

As a reminder here is the layout of the quilt:

I’ve already shared the instructions for creating row, 4, 5, 6 and today we are going to create row 3.

Row 3 is made up of 5 blocks, each one of them looks like this:

20 squares each 4″ x 4″

From Blue Fabric Cut:

10 squares each 4″ x 4″

From Green Fabric Cut:

10 squares each 4″ x 4″

From Center Strip Fabric Cut:

Construction:

How to Quick Piece Half Square Triangles

Step One:

Begin by creating your Half Square Triangles. To do this pair one background square with one color background square.  Place the two pieces together, right sides facing.

Draw a line down the center diagonally on the wrong side of the background fabric square. Stitch down each side of the line 1/4″ out from the drawn line. Cut apart along the line, press seam to one side and trim to 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″

Repeat this step until you have 40 completed Half Square Triangles, 20 green/white and 20 blue/white.

Step 2:

Layout 8 of the sewn Half Square Triangles and the center strip as shown in the photo above. You will have 2 blue and 2 green HST on the first row and 2 blue and 2 green HST on the 3rd row.

Stitch the 4 HST’s on the first row together and press the seams all to one side.

Repeat with the 3rd row.

Stitch row 1 to the center strip.

Press seam toward center strip.

Stitch row 3 to the other side of the center strip.

Press seam towards the center strip.

Repeat until you have 5 completed blocks.

Step 3:

Stitch all 5 blocks together and press seams to one side.

That’s it! You’re done with row 3!
