Last week we learned how to make flying geese blocks. Today we are going to build on that skill and make a row of flying geese blocks, but this time we are going to make 20 instead of 5! Are you ready?
The row we are working on is row 5 of the quilt. We are NOT going in order. We are going out of order so that this quilt can be a skill builder quilt for those that are new or somewhat new to quilting.
Okay, are you ready to go?
5 pieces 3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ from Pink Elephant Fabric
5 pieces 3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ from Blue Geometric Fabric
5 pieces 3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ from Green Geometric Fabric
5 pieces 3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ from Green Elephant Fabric
Cut 40 pieces 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ from Background Fabric
Begin by drawing a diagonal line on the wrong side of each of your 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ background fabric pieces.
Layer one 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ background pieces onto one of your 3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ pieces, it should line up like this.
Stitch along the line you drew.
Trim the excess seam allowance 1/4″ on the outside of the seam.
Flip fabric up and press.
Repeat for the other side of the 3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ piece.
If necessary, square up and trim to 3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″.
Repeat until you have sewn all 20 flying geese blocks.
You now need to create 5 blocks from these flying geese blocks. Mine go in order, fabric A, B, C, D etc. You can mix it up if you like or go in order.
I chose to stitch my pieces together into 4 blocks at a time, and then stitch all 5 blocks to each other. You can also just stitch all 20 together at one time. It’s up to you and whatever you are most comfortable with.

I’d love to see your blocks! If you share on social media be sure to tag me @polkadotchair so I can see them!!
