    Poinsettia Christmas Neighbor Gift Ideas

Updated: Dec 2, 2021 by Melissa Mortenson · This post may contain affiliate links · This blog generates income via ads · 1 Comment

Today I’m going to share with you a printable that I designed for myself a few years ago but never got around to sharing online, these poinsettia gift tags. If you’re looking for cute Christmas neighbor gift ideas then this may be just what you need.

I love to sew, and usually have a giant list of things to make each December. For years I tried to create handmade gifts for all of my friends and family members. After a year or two of sewing like crazy I noticed that I became unnecessarily stressed out during the month of December. I decided that I needed a new plan.

Instead of creating gifts 100% from scratch, I decided to embellish items that I could buy to make them more personal.  A few years ago I got the idea to give poinsettia plants to some of my friends for Christmas.

I designed a tag to go along with the gift.  Have you always wondered why poinsettia plants were popular at Christmas (especially since they are tropical flowers)? Well, I did too. I found a poem that explained a bit about the symbolism behind the plants. Since I loved the poem I thought a few of my friends would also, so I included a copy of it with the gift.

This year I’ve “updated” the graphics on the tag and created a free printable that you can download on my site

How to Make the Poinsettia Gift

    1. Fill out the form at the bottom of the page to have the printable emailed to you.

    2. Print out the tag onto textured cardstock. I think that textured cardstock gives printables a more professional look. (If you’d prefer a less religious Holiday sentiment, you could use this idea with any gift tag really, it doesn’t need to be poinsettia specific).

    3. Tape a bamboo skewer to the back of the gift tag using a bit of Christmas themed washi tape

    4. Feed a decorative straw over the top of the bamboo skewer to “dress it up” a bit more. If you are using a large poinsettia plant and need the skewer to be taller, just tape two bamboo skewers together then hide the tape with the straw.

    Tips

You can also add a few decorative items to your plant. I used a bit of hot glue and glued skewers to the back of a few snowflake Christmas ornaments.

Now all you need to do is arrange the picks you created in the poinsettia.

That’s it! An easy peasy (yet meaningful) Christmas neighbor gift idea!
