Updated! Valentine Chair Backer Pattern + Mini Fabric Envelope Pattern

Valentine’s Day is almost here, and I’ve given one of my original favorites a little love and a makeover! The classic Valentine Chair Backer sewing pattern that many of you have made over the years has been updated, and now includes a mini fabric envelope pattern that pairs perfectly with it!

You might remember the original Love Pouch pattern, a fun PDF sewing pattern for a chair backer pouch that hangs right on the back of a chair and waits for Valentine surprises (notes, candy, tiny gifts!) to be tucked inside. It was originally shared back in 2011 and has been a sweet holiday staple in so many homes.

I’m excited to announce that the pattern has received a much-needed refresh!

What is a Chair Backer?

Make Valentine’s Day extra special with a handmade surprise! This Valentine’s Day Chair Backer Pouch Pattern is designed to hang right on the back of a chair, perfect for holding little gifts, notes, candy, and Valentine’s Day treats. Made from sturdy canvas and lined with quilting cotton. 

The pouch features a slit-style top opening and ties to the chair back, so it stays in place and feels like a fun “Valentine mailbox” your kids will love waking up to.

This pattern also includes instructions for a coordinating small fabric envelope, ideal for gifting a note, gift card, or small surprise in a way that feels extra special (and reusable year after year!).

This project uses ribbon ties solely for decorative purposes. Ribbons and ties can pose a choking, strangulation, or entanglement hazard. Do not use this item with infants or small children, and always keep ribbons out of reach. Adult supervision is required at all times.
