For today’s installment of the Santa’s Sampler Quilt-Along, we’re stitching the Santa’s Christmas Gift Quilt Block. This cheerful design pairs a crisp two-tone green checkerboard with a bold patchwork bow, like a perfectly wrapped present right in the middle of your quilt.

This fun gift quilt block is surprisingly quick to sew and adds such a festive pop of color and pattern. Let’s unwrap this block together and create something worth celebrating! This is block 6 of the Quilt Along.

Equipment

Instructions

Cutting:

Fabric A: Bleached Denim: 1 piece 4” x 4”, 2 pieces 3 1/2” x 3 1/2”
Fabric C: Red: 1 piece 4” x 4”, 1 piece 3 1/2” x 9 1/2”
Fabric E: Clover: 8 pieces 2 3/4” x 2 3/4”
Fabric F: Riley Green: 8 pieces 2 3/4” x 2 3/4”

Step One: Create Half-Square Triangles

Using one of the 4” x 4” pieces of Fabric A and one 4” x 4” piece of Fabric C, create two Half Square Triangle units.
Trim and square up each to 3 1/2” x 3 1/2”.

Step Two:

Sew one 2 3/4” x 2 3/4” piece of Fabric E to one 2 3/4” x 2 3/4” piece of Fabric F.
Repeat seven more times to have eight sewn units.

Step Three:

Sew four of the Step Two units together as shown.
Repeat.

Step Four:

Sew one of the Step Two units to each side of the 3 1/2” x 9 1/2” piece of Fabric C.

Step Five:

Sew together in order:
3 1/2” x 3 1/2” Fabric A, Step One HST, Step One HST, 3 1/2” x 3 1/2” Fabric A.

Assembly:

Sew the Step Five unit to the top of the Step Four unit to complete the block.
