Dorm Room Decor: Memory Pillow Tutorial

DIY Dorm Room Decor, Photo Memory Pillow Tutorial

My first born child is starting College far from home this month.  We’ve had fun all summer making plans for her new dorm room.  I knew that I wanted to make sure that she had some reminders of home when she was far away.

We’ve filled her moving boxes with lots of reminders of home like her favorite BBQ sauce, a Louisville art print, lots of UofL championship t-shirts, and some stone ground grits! (My southern girl is headed west).

In addition to all of the above I’m sending her with this Memory Pillow as a soft reminder of all of us back here in Kentucky.

The pillow is made with some of my favorite Sarah Jane fabric with printable fabric sheets by Electric Quilt. You can find a free pattern download for the entire pillow over at WeAllSew.com today! The project is part of my year long partnership with Bernina.

and on a more personal note,  for those of you who’ve already dropped kids off at school far away, any tips for me would be greatly appreciated 🙂

We take my son on Monday! Bittersweet. I should make one of these pillows for him, but I wouldn’t know how to make the picture?!? Some boy colors would be fun.

We took our only two years ago to an out of state college (8 driving hours). It was tough getting used to the quiet house but he was and is so happy. It’s what we raised them to do so try and remember that fact when you get sad or lonely. Try your best to let your college student call you and leave them to their new world. They will be more excited when they talk to you this way and you will be surprised just how much they call and text. Send them little cards with cartoons to cheer them (via snail mail). Cookies are always welcome! Good luck!

Thanks! My next to leave are twins, then no more kids at home after that. I appreciate your kind words!
