Join our Summer Block Party Sew Along

Join us in creating a breezy mystery Summer quilt with blocks designed by some of your favorite pattern designers!

I never know quite what to sew during the summer. Should I start a Christmas quilt? Or maybe Halloween?

Every year, when the Fourth of July rolls around, I wish I had a fun quilt to pull out and use. A few years ago, I made my Red, White, and Blue stripey quilt, which I love, but I’ve been wanting something more fun!

I was chatting with a few other quilt designers about our summer plans, and we came up with the idea of a Summer sew-along! We can’t all come and sew with you, but this is the next best thing!

How it Works

Each day, for 9 days, starting June 17th, we will email you a PDF pattern for a 12” Summer Quilt Block.

We will send you finishing instructions on June 26th to turn your quilt into a 44” x 58” quilt!

The fun doesn’t stop there. Each Friday in July, we will send you a BONUS project to make with your 12” blocks!

Then, at the end of July, just like Cinderella’s coach, the patterns will all disappear! So you don’t want to sleep on this one!

Fabric Choices

As designers, we decided to sew with mostly solid fabrics so that you could easily swap in your favorite fabric designs! We deliberately chose shades of colors to make it easy for you to decide which fabric you want to use!

Colors Used (all are Riley Blake Designs)

We used Seasonal Basics, Stars in Red, White, and Blue for the background fabric. This quilt would be cute with any white fabric (like Sparkler, maybe??) or another low-volume print!

FAQs about the Quilt Along

The designers are me, Amy Smart, Andy Knowlton, Amy Chappell, Amanda Niederhauser, Bev McCullough, Jennifer Long & Jen Belnap.

You can find Riley Blake’s solid fabrics at many stores, including Etsy and Fat Quarter Shop. If you can’t find the exact fabrics we used, that’s okay! This quilt will be really cute scrappy! Or, if you don’t want to use solid fabrics, pick your favorite red, white, and blue print fabrics to coordinate!

It’s a surprise! I will tell you all of the blocks are summer-themed and could be made in another colorway if you don’t like red, white, and blue.

No, the simplest way for us to run this and keep it free is to deliver it via email. If you don’t want to stay subscribed afterward, you can easily unsubscribe (there’s an unsubscribe link in each email we send you).

The quilt along runs through July 31st. After that, the blocks will no longer be available. Some of the designers may offer them for sale individually, but that’s up to each designer.

I’d say this for a confident beginner to intermediate quilter. If there’s a block that you think is too difficult to piece, you can just swap out any other 12″ quilt block (I’ve got lots of free patterns on my site if you need a suggestion).

I hope you’ll consider joining us! The fun starts June 17th!
