Vintage Delight Quilt Block Pattern

Let’s kick off the 5th annual Riley Blake Designs Quilt block challenge with a free 10″ quilt block pattern called Vintage Delight!

The Riley Blake Designs quilt block challenge has returned for a fifth year!  The challenge began four years ago when a group of designers organized it as a way to keep everybody busy (we all remember why we wanted to stay busy; we don’t need to talk about that).  It was so successful that Riley Blake decided to make it an official event, and every January, a new block challenge begins.

I’ve shown along with 3 of the four block challenges, and I am excited to be sewing along with this one this year this year. I’ll make my quilt from my Tulip Cottage fabric collection with Riley Blake Designs. The collection is set for release in February, so keep an eye out for it in stores.

Two years ago, I stitched up my quilt using my Sparkler fabrics (the 2022 quilt above), but since I have a collection that is being released so close to the sew-along, I decided to make it from my fabric collection instead!

How It Works

Every Tuesday (except the last Tuesday of the month) from January through May, Riley Blake shares a free quilt block pattern for a 10-inch quilt block. Each of the blocks is designed by one of their fabric designers. My block will be released in May.

Get all of the fabric requirements and answers to many of your most Frequently Asked Questions on the Riley Blake Designs Blog.

How to Get the Block Patterns

I’ll share a PDF for that week’s quilt block pattern each week. To get a copy of the PDF, you only need to fill out the form on this page, and I will email it to you. This will also add you to my weekly newsletter, so you’ll get a reminder in your email each week to download that week’s block pattern (newsletter and block patterns are free; you can easily unsubscribe anytime).

If you don’t want to get the block pattern from me, that’s no problem. You can also get the blocks directly from Riley Blake Designs; I’ll do my best to share my blocks each Wednesday but know that the blocks are released on Tuesdays, and you can grab them over on the Riley Blake blog.

Fill out the form below, and I will email you the Vintage Delight Quilt Block Pattern.

At the end of the block challenge, you’ll get a PDF with unique setting instructions for the quilt. If you don’t like the final layout, have a whole round of sampler quilt blocks and layout ideas on the site that you may enjoy. The final quilt layout is a surprise, as are the blocks shared each week.

Block The first block is called Vintage Delight and was designed by Lori Holt of Bee in My Bonnet. It is a 10-inch block made using a combination of half-square triangles and other shortcut quilt block piecing techniques.

For this Quilt Block, you will need:

  • Rotary Cutter
  • Cutting Mat
  • Quilt Ruler
  • 3-4 different fabrics
  • Background Fabric (I used Sparkler)

Here, you can see the block sewn in some of Lori’s Fabric and the block sewn from Riley Blake Confetti cotton solid fabrics.
