Finish it Friday; Vintage Inspired Society Sparkler Quilt
I’m excited to share photos and information about my completed Society Sparkler Quilt with you! This quilt is a vintage-inspired pink and green sampler quilt, and I’m thrilled with how it turned out.

It’s been a while since I’ve shared a “Finish it Friday” post! A couple of years ago, I was growing tired of all the works in progress (WIPs) in my fabric stash and decided to start getting some things finished. I started well, but like many things, I lost a bit of steam as time went by.
Now that it’s summer, I’m excited to recommit to getting some things out of my WIP pile and into people’s hands!
Let’s chat about the quilt! The quilt pattern is my Society Sparkler Quilt pattern, which was the block-of-the-month pattern from our Polka Dot Stitch Society membership in 2024.
My general plan for releasing my block of the month membership patterns is to make them available to everyone after 18 months have passed. Now that it’s June, I’m excited to be able to share this pattern with you.
My mother-in-law has a gorgeous garden, and I knew her peonies were about to bloom, getting photos of this quilt with her beautiful flowers was just the motivation I needed to finish the quilt!
Quilt Details
It was inspired by an antique quilt that my daughter spotted in the new film adaptation of Little Women. She took a photo of the TV screen and then texted me, “I want this quilt”! I was more than happy to oblige, as most of my best blog projects have originated from ideas my kids have shared with me in the past.
The quilt in the movie is a basket quilt in bright pink and white with bright green sashing (I could not get a full view of the quilt; it may have had other blocks, but the portion viewable in the movie was just basket blocks). Using that quilt as an inspiration, I designed the Society Sparkler quilt!

Videos
If you want to make the quilt and think you need a bit more help, you can join our Patreon membership! All of the videos of the construction steps of the quilt are saved in the group.
The membership is month-to-month, so you can join to view the videos and then cancel when you no longer need the extra help. (You can also make our 2025 quilt if you want, there’s still time.)
My Big Mistakes
I’m sure many of you have spotted the errors I made in the construction of this quilt. There is a mis-sewn block and two blocks that feature the wrong white fabrics! There’s a story there for sure!
One of the things I love most about my block of the month series is that I sew the quilt right along with my readers! I have a basket in my sewing room filled with my fabrics, and I look forward to cutting out and assembling my block each month.
The last block of the series was the basket block. Usually, I only sew with ONE white fabric, Riley White. At the time, I was working on quilts for my upcoming Bluegrass Charm fabric line, which features a warm white background. I started constructing a few quilts with Riley Blake Cloud and didn’t realize I had mixed up my whites!
The shade differences were so subtle that I didn’t notice them at all, even with the daylight lights I have in my sewing room!
It wasn’t until I finished the quilt and took it outside to photograph that I noticed the variations in the white. Not only did I see it, but it was glaringly obvious right away!
The second mistake I made was with the row assembly on one of the blocks. For the blocks, I flipped one of the rows, but didn’t even notice. I always make one block as a test block, then film myself making the second block.
I think I was so distracted with getting the technical aspects of the filming correct that I didn’t even notice I sewed the rows wrong!
Since the quilt is now quilted, there’s nothing to be done. It stands as a unique “one of a kind” quilt now, and my daughter doesn’t seem to mind, so all’s well that ends well!
Additional Color Ways
Overall, I’m so happy with how this quilt turned out. If you’re interested in the pattern, I’ve mocked it up in a few additional colorways; I love the simplicity of the three-color design.
Grab the pattern in our Shop! If you’re outside the USA, you can get it in our Etsy shop as well.
It still came out beautiful! And who doesn’t love an I spy?
Oh that’s a good way to look at it!
I loved doing this block of the month with you! Mine is all finished and it is on my bed until I can decide what to do with it. I’d love to show you a photo of it but I don’t think I can post a photo here.
You can post a photo here if you want, it would be really helpful for everyone else to see your quilt too! https://shop.polkadotchair.com/collections/coming-soon/products/society-sparkler-vintage-inspired-sampler-quilt-pattern-digital-pdf-quilt-pattern
