Join Me for the Festive Friends Christmas Quilt Along
Sew along with me this holiday season as we create the Festive Friends Christmas quilt. This is a free quilt-along being hosted exclusively on the Polka Dot Chair!
I have had the idea for this quilt-along brewing for a few years now, and finally, this year, I got organized enough to host it! I hope to turn it into an annual event if all goes well.
I know many of you like to sew Christmas projects well before Christmas. However, I want to sew Christmas projects at Christmas time! It helps me get in the holiday spirit, and I love looking at the festive Christmas fabrics on my cutting table all December.
The Festive Friends Quilt Along
I have created the Festive Friends Quilt Pattern that I am excited to share with all of you for free this season! But there’s a catch! On January 1st, the patterns will disappear from our site and move to the shop.
Visit each week to print your quilt block pattern and sew along with me!
The final quilt pattern and layout are a mystery, and they will be revealed on Wednesdays and Fridays between now and December 20th.

Follow along as the image above is slowly unveiled, and you can see the entire free pattern!
(also, there’s a pretty good sneak peek in the first image of this blog post)
If you prefer a PDF version instead of the printable version on the blog posts, a PDF of each block pattern will also be available for a small fee.
Quilt Pattern Details
The final layout is a mystery, but I can share a few details.
- Size: 60″ x 60″
- Block Sizes: 12″ Finished
- I will be using my Sparkler fabric collection to create the blocks. You can use any Basics fabric collection or simple fabric prints from your stash. (I’ll list the fabric requirements for the quilt below in the printable pattern.)
- It features a large outside pieced border.
- There are five unique quilt block patterns (each with a Christmas theme) and a corner block pattern (you will sew it four times).
- Finishing instructions for the blocks will be shared on December 20th.
- There are nine blocks to sew in total and the blocks will be arranged in three rows of three.
Here are all of the Sparkler quilt colors so you can use them as references as you pick your fabrics. The quilt pattern will use Sparkler fabrics in Clover, Daisy, Red, Bear Lake, Songbird, Bleached Denim, Riley Green, White, Black & Pebble (not shown, but it’s a gingerbread color).

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you email me the blocks?
This quilt-along is hosted on our website, not through email. However, if you subscribe to our weekly newsletter, we will let you know when the new blocks are posted so you can print the patterns!
What if I miss a block?
All the block patterns will be on our site through the end of the year, so you’ll have plenty of time to print them. We will link the past blocks in each blog post so you can easily find them.
Can I get a PDF?
Yes, you can purchase a PDF for a small fee of each block. Buying all block patterns will cost about the same price as one of our existing sampler quilt patterns. You can also buy the complete pattern from our shop in January.
When will the block patterns be posted?
They will be posted on Wednesdays and Fridays between today and December 20th.
How do I print the patterns?
Scroll down to each blog post and look for the large green print button. Just click that, and the block pattern will automatically be formatted into a printer-friendly format.
What do the blocks look like?
It’s a mystery! All are Christmas-themed.
Why are there ads with the block patterns?
This is a free pattern; you can use the print button on our website to print a copy to have it close by as you sew (ads do not print). I know it’s important to have written instructions close by, I’m a quilter too!
Yes, there are ads on this website. The ads allow us to offer you so many free patterns and projects. Would I like there not to be ads? Yes! Would I like to walk into Target and have everything be free? Also yes! LOL!
I offer premium content. I don’t post “just to post,” and I have deleted projects in the past that I didn’t think were worth your while. If you’re visiting here, you can be assured that you will get worthwhile, creative, and helpful information! So yes, there are ads; they make this site and the thousands of free projects possible.
The placement of the ads is adjusted and monitored weekly; adjustments are made as things change (at times, the ads get wonky, usually because Apple or Chrome changed something, and trying to keep up with browser changes sometimes is a full-time job, LOL!)
I do not want to start charging for everything because I know some of you can not always afford to pay for projects. In addition, we offer a print button for almost every project, something that most sewing and quilting blogs do not do.
I hope you’ll be kind and understanding as we start this fun quilt! I am SO EXCITED to share these quilt blocks with you; some are so cute, and wait until you see the finished quilt!
