I’m excited to introduce you to my Spellbound Quilted Witch hat pattern! With the renewed interest in quilted clothing (I’ve got “make a quilt coat” next on my to-do list) this year, I thought it would be really fun to find a way to make a patchwork witch’s hat. I love Halloween sewing and wanted to try to make something new this year.

While planning & designing the pattern, I knew I wanted the hat to hold its shape but be flexible enough to sew on a home sewing machine. I went through many prototypes before I settled on the Spellbound hat pattern.

Fabric for the Witch Hat

The fabric on this witch hat is from my Spooky Schoolhouse collection with Riley Blake Designs. I adore Halloween and have had much fun dreaming up sewing and quilting projects for my Halloween fabric collections.

The fabric is found at many independent quilt shops, Etsy & Hawthorne Threads.

What Size is the Hat?

The hat is designed for a grown-up and will fit “most” people. It’s slightly oversized, and the pattern includes instructions to create sizers to make the hat fit smaller heads more snugly. We do have plans to release a smaller size later this year and will include it in the printed pattern.

Is a Printed Version Available?

Right now, we only have the PDF version available. We are in the process of printing the pattern and anticipate having printed copies later this year. There just wasn’t time to get them printed before Halloween this year.

What Materials are Required?

The pattern is made from about 1 1/2 yards of fabric for the hat and 1 1/2 for the lining (depending on the direction of your fabric print). You will also need Flex Foam (or Annies soft and stable) and Heavyweight Interfacing.

What Fabric is Used in the Samples?

It’s the Spooky Schoolhouse Fabric Collection by Melissa Mortenson for Riley Blake Designs.

Do I need to be a Quilter to Make the Hat?

Nope! Included are instructions to make a version of the hat that is not quilted. If you are a quilter, I think you’ll really enjoy the patchwork quilted version. Think of all the pattern possibilities!

I’ve had so much fun creating this hat, and I hope you guys will love it as much as I do!
