Square Pegs Quilt Block Pattern
Join me as I sew along with the Riley Blake Designs quilt block challenge! This week’s free quilt block pattern is Square Pegs and is a pattern for a 10″ finished quilt block featuring a row of squares crisscrossing the block.
Welcome to week eleven of the Riley Blake Quilt Block challenge. I actually forgot what week it was and had to look it up! You may notice that I’m sharing this quilt block a week late. I had a few other pressing deadlines to take care of last week, and my sewing time was limited.
This week, I’ll be sharing both this quilt block and the week twelve block
This week, the quilt block pattern was designed by Amber Johnson of Gigi’s Thimble. Amber is one of Riley Blake’s newest fabric designers, her debut fabric collection Feels Like Home releases in May.
About the Quilt Block
This week’s block is very detail-oriented. If I had some advice to give you about it, it would be the same as my tips for quilting with small fabric pieces.
- Starch your fabric before you cut.
- Double-check that your seam allowances are a scant 1/4″.
- As you press, ensure you do not distort or warp your fabric.
My block is a bit wonky, but that’s ok with me. You won’t even notice it after this quilt is stitched up, quilted, and washed.
My quilt block is sewn from the navy and pink fabrics in my Tulip Cottage collection, which is in stores now!

Riley Blake is creating their example quilt from Confetti Cotton solid fabrics. I love that they chose different values of the same color to create their block, giving it a faux “transparency” effect.
Amber’s block is sewn with fabrics from her new line.
