Pop Star Quilt Block Pattern; RBD Block #11

This week for the Riley Blake 2022 Quilt Block Challenge I have a free pattern for a Pop Star Quilt block designed by Heather Peterson.

Pop Star is the first of the “official” Riley Blake block patterns to be shared in the month of April.

Last week I shared a block pattern but it was actually for the last March block, not the first April block (I had the wrong dates on my calendar).

    About the Quilt Block Pattern

This block was designed by Heather Peterson of Anka’s Treasures.

Heather describes her block as “I have always loved star blocks! I think it’s really fun to see how many different ways simple squares and triangles can be arranged within a star, so I just played with those shapes until I came up with a pattern I liked. I liked how the coral color made a secondary design that kind of formed a chain within the star block.”

When I first saw the block, I was a bit intimidated. It seemed to me like it would involve a lot of smaller pieces and I’m not always the best at piecing those types of blocks accurately.

I was pleasantly surprised as I created the block that it was pretty straightforward. As with all quilt block patterns, watch your seam allowance and be careful not to distort the fabric as you press your seams.

    Additional Fabric Options

Here you can see the block sewn with Heather’s fabric collection.

In addition, here is the block sewn with Riley Blake Confetti Cottons solids in blues.
